SOLIDARITY PLATFORM

IMPORTANT REVISION AS OF SUMMER 2020

Where Solidarity Platform had previously supported calls for police demilitarization and reform, we now assert, as do the authors of 8Can'tWait, that police reform fails to address the roots of racial capitalism and allows a pretext of positive intention for the further proliferation of violence serving power. Under reform, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, refugee, poor, and other oppressed people are and will continue to be killed and terrorized daily. We are indebted to the sustained work of long-term abolitionists and to present day and largely local BIPOC organizers for this clarity. Solidarity Platform, should it sustain, will be adding Police and Prison Abolition as a core tenet.

POLICE AND PRISON ABOLITION

We are local candidates, organized around a shared platform. We campaign to claim space in the process, assert marginalized perspectives, and build a movement around core tenets:

  • Climate Urgency: Every city must strive to do more than its share to prevent, and prepare for, the worst effects of climate catastrophe.

  • Bottom-Line Human Rights: We prioritize bottom-line universal human rights without compromise.

  • Regenerative Economic Modeling: We believe it's possible to create a new economic paradigm that values interdependence, and prioritizes survival, equity, and communal resilience.

  • Empowered Democracy: Equity and meaningful, participatory democracy are fundamental to us. We seek to understand the ways in which our local government obstructs participation in order to remove such obstructions.

  • Decolonization: We open space for agendas of decolonization, reparations, and remediation. We acknowledge the paradox of utilizing colonizing structures for these purposes.
